Plant Pigments

Organic substances in plant that are responsible in imparting various colours to plant parts are called plant pigments.
 
Occurrence of Plant Pigments : Protoplasm of the cells, chlorophyll, chloroplast of the cells.

Classification of Plant Pigments: Plant pigments are classified into two ways depending upon their solubility in fat or water.

I) Fat Soluble Plant Pigments:

A) Chlorophyll
B) Carotenoid

Carotene is Light yellow, deep red, violet, purple colour  pigment.
Xanthophyll is Yellow colour pigments

II) Water Soluble Plant Pigments:

A) Anthocyanin:   red, blue, purple colour pigment.
B) Anthoxanthin:  yellow colour pigments.
