Ecological Requirement and Land Preparation for Cultivation of Linseed

A) Climatic Requirement for Cultivation of Linseed:

1. Linseed is a cool and dry season crop.
2. The temperature ranging between 100C to 250C is good for growth.
3. It is a drought resistant crop and grown as rainfed crop is areas receiving 650 to 1000 mm rainfall.
4. It cannot tolerate heavy rains during growth periods.

B) Soil Requirement for Cultivation of Linseed:

1. Linseed can be grown on different types of soils except sandy and heavy clay.
2. But it grows best in water retentive alluvial and deep black soils with good drainage.
3. It is exhaustive crop and soil become linseed sick, if crop is grown on same field year after year.

C) Preparation of Land for Cultivation of Linseed:

1. Land is prepared by frequent harrowing in kharif when taken as first crop.
2. If grown as second crop than land is prepared by giving of kharif crop.
3. Land is cleaned off by collecting and destroying the stubbles.
4. As mixed crop it share the land prepared for main crop.
